Description: Large vase with design of poppies encircling the top one-third of the vase; glazed is a light green with very light application of a red glaze over spray on the tops of the poppy flowers. Bottom markings include the incised Double-A, Van Briggle, date of 1905 and Roman Numeral V, indicative of the clay type; all in the handwriting attributed to Anne Gregory Van Briggle. Design #150 is impressed in the clay.
Dimensions: 11″ height vase, approx. 20″ with metal shade
Other: Japanese workers from Rookwood Pottery spent time in Colo. Spgs. prior to the 1904 World’s Fair, assisting Artus Van Briggle with the production of a few metal shades and mounts for special vases. Shades and vase mounts were incised with the Double-A. Few lamps were produced, and were displayed at the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis; and 1905 Boston Exhibition.
Another of these rare lamps is on display at the Kirkland Gallery in Denver.
