Courtesy of Brian Goldenman: These are photos of his newly acquired Design #204, dated 1903.
Due to the bottom glaze partially obscuring the marks of this piece; Brian chose to have an x-ray taken. The Double-A, Van Briggle, date of 1903 & Roman Numeral III clay type; are all clearly visible in the handwriting attributed to Artus Van Briggle. The impressed Design #204 is partially visible to the left side of the piece. The “2” in 204 is not visible, due to the x-ray not traveling through the side of the vase. The Design #204 was confirmed by comparison with the 2015 Revised Catalogue of Van Briggle Designs by Robert Wyman Newton. X-rays are not productive when your vase has a very small opening, as the bottom portion x-rayed will be shown only in the same size as the opening through which the x-ray travels. A top opening of one inch diameter, would show only a one inch circle of the writing on the bottom.
